How many devices can you use? Every plan covers up to 3 devices at the same time. Each device gets its own setup, and the number that counts is how many devices use the VPN at the same moment.
This guide explains what counts as a device, how to set up each one so they do not get in each other's way and what happens when one more device connects than your plan covers.
What counts as a device
A device is anything that runs the VPN: a TV, a TV stick, a TV box, a phone, a tablet or a computer. Count every device that uses the VPN at the same time, whichever way it connects, and keep within how many devices your plan covers.
A device that is switched off, or has the VPN switched off, does not count at that moment.
Two ways to connect, two ways to count
Your account has two ways to connect, and each one counts devices in its own way.
- WireGuard. Your account shows one device number for each device: device 1, device 2 and so on. Each number is one setup, with its own QR code and .conf file. Use one number on one device only.
- The OpenVPN profile. The .ovpn file and your VPN username and password, for IPTV Smarters Pro and OpenVPN Connect. The limit counts the connections that use your VPN username at the same time.
You can mix both: for example WireGuard on the living room TV and the phone, and the OpenVPN profile inside IPTV Smarters Pro on a second TV.
What happens when one more device connects
With the OpenVPN profile, when one more device connects than your plan covers, the oldest connection is closed so the newest one can connect. That way an old connection, for example from a phone that lost its signal, does not keep the device you use right now off the VPN.
With WireGuard, two devices on the same device number push each other off the connection. Neither one runs steadily. Give each device its own number and the problem goes away.
How to set up several devices
1List your devices
Write down every device that should use the VPN, and how many of them run at the same time. Keep that number within how many devices your plan covers.
2Give each WireGuard device its own number
Sign in to your IPTV VPN account, open Subscriptions and open your VPN subscription. The Your VPN card holds your VPN username and password, an OpenVPN file (.ovpn) for each server location and a WireGuard setup for each device number.
Pick device 1 for the first device, device 2 for the next, and so on. On a phone, scan the QR code. On a TV or a computer, press Download .conf. Note which number went where.
3Use the OpenVPN profile where an app needs it
If you watch in IPTV Smarters Pro, you can import the .ovpn file in its VPN section instead. See the IPTV Smarters Pro guide.
4Switch the VPN off on devices you do not use
A phone or a laptop that you are not using can stay off the VPN. That keeps room for the devices you watch on.
Common questions about devices
- Several devices at home? One plan covers them, as long as you keep within how many devices your plan covers at the same time. Each device gets its own setup.
- I got a new TV. What now? Use the device number of the old TV on the new one, and remove the tunnel from the old TV.
- Two TVs keep dropping. They share a device number. Give each its own.
