Smarters VPN not connecting? The cause is usually one of four things: your plan, your VPN login, the .ovpn file or the network you are on. Work through the fixes below in order, and test the connection after each one.
The VPN section of IPTV Smarters Pro uses an OpenVPN profile, the .ovpn file in your account. If you have not set it up yet, start with our IPTV Smarters Pro VPN guide and come back here if it does not connect.
What "not connecting" looks like
A Smarters VPN not connecting can show up in different ways. Note which one you see, because it points to the fix:
- It keeps trying and never connects. Usually the network or an old file. Start at fix 3.
- It says the login or authentication failed. Usually the username or password. Start at fix 2.
- It connects, then drops after a while. Check your plan first, then the number of devices.
- It shows connected, but nothing plays. The VPN is up, so the problem is elsewhere. Read VPN connected but no picture.
1Check that your plan is active
Sign in to your IPTV VPN account, open Subscriptions and open your VPN subscription. The Your VPN card holds your VPN username and password, an OpenVPN file (.ovpn) for each server location and a WireGuard setup for each device number.
If the subscription is not active, the VPN login stops working and the app cannot connect. A free trial stops by itself at the end of its time, so a trial login that worked earlier today may simply have ended.
2Copy the VPN username and password again
The login for the VPN is the username and password on the Your VPN card. It is not the login of your IPTV playlist, and it is not the password you sign in to your account with.
- Copy both again from the card instead of typing them.
- They are case sensitive.
- A space at the start or the end counts as a character. Remove it.
Then enter them again in the VPN section of IPTV Smarters Pro and connect. The exact menu name differs by app version. A wrong login is a common reason for a Smarters VPN not connecting, so check this one carefully.
3Import a fresh .ovpn file
Download the .ovpn file again from your account and import it as a new profile. Remove the old profile from the app first, so you do not pick it by mistake. A fresh file always lists the current servers of that location.
Do not open or edit the file in another app on the way. Some apps change the text when they save it, and the file then no longer works.
4Get the file onto the right device
The file must be on the device that runs IPTV Smarters Pro. On a TV, press Copy link next to the location on your phone or computer, then open that address in the browser on the TV. The file downloads on the TV itself. The link works for 14 days.
Our guide on how to import an .ovpn file shows this step in more detail.
5Restart the app and the device
Close IPTV Smarters Pro fully, not just to the background. On a TV or a TV stick, restart the device. Then open the app and connect again. This clears a connection that got stuck half way.
6Check the date and time on the device
The VPN checks that it really talks to our server. A device with a wrong date or time can fail that check and refuse to connect. Set the date and time to automatic in the device settings, then try again.
7Try another network
If you only see your Smarters VPN not connecting at home, try it on another network for a minute, for example a hotspot from your phone.
- It connects on the other network. Your home network or router does not let this kind of connection through. The profile already tries the quick UDP connection first and moves to TCP by itself. Restart the router and try again.
- It does not connect anywhere. Go back to fixes 2 and 3.
- Your network blocks VPN connections. Some networks do. Stealth mode is made for those, in a separate stealth app. It does not work inside IPTV Smarters Pro.
8Try WireGuard instead
Still the Smarters VPN not connecting after all of this? Set up the official WireGuard app on the same device. It is a different way to connect, and it covers every app on the device, IPTV Smarters Pro included. You do not need a username and password for it. See the WireGuard guide for every device, or WireGuard on a Fire TV Stick.
It worked yesterday and not today
When a setup that worked stops overnight, look at what changed:
- The plan. It may have ended. Check Subscriptions.
- The app. An app update can remove imported profiles. Import the .ovpn file again.
- The network. A new router, a new Wi-Fi or a hotel network can behave differently. Try fix 7.
- The device. A TV that restarted may have set a wrong date. Try fix 6.
Still not connecting?
If you still have your Smarters VPN not connecting, contact our support and tell us three things: the device, what the app shows when it fails and which fixes you already tried. That helps us find the cause quickly. The IPTV Smarters Pro setup page has the full steps for a new setup.
