What is stealth mode? It is a way of connecting that makes your VPN connection look like ordinary secure web traffic. It is made for networks that block normal VPN connections, such as some hotel, school and work networks.
You only need it on those networks. At home, WireGuard or the OpenVPN profile is simpler. This guide explains what stealth mode does, when to use it and how to set it up in a stealth app.
Why some networks block VPNs
A normal VPN connection has a recognisable shape. A network can see that a device talks to a VPN server, even though it cannot see what passes through. Some networks use that to block VPN connections, often on hotel, school or work Wi-Fi.
When that happens, the WireGuard app or the VPN in IPTV Smarters Pro tries to connect and never gets there.
What is stealth mode, in short
Stealth mode wraps your VPN connection so it looks like ordinary secure web traffic, the same kind your browser uses for most websites. Your traffic is still encrypted between your device and our server.
- What it is for: networks that block VPN connections.
- What it is not for: everyday use where WireGuard or OpenVPN already connect.
- What it needs: a stealth app on your device and the stealth link from your account.
What is stealth mode for, and when to use it
Use WireGuard or the OpenVPN profile first. Switch to stealth mode only on a network where those do not connect. Follow the rules of the network you use.
A quick way to check: if the VPN connects on your phone's mobile data but not on a certain Wi-Fi, that Wi-Fi is the problem, and stealth mode is the thing to try there.
Stealth mode and IPTV Smarters Pro
Stealth mode does not work inside the VPN section of IPTV Smarters Pro. That section takes the OpenVPN profile only. To use stealth mode, connect in a stealth app first, then open your IPTV app. See the IPTV Smarters Pro guide for the normal setup.
How to set it up
1Install a stealth app
Pick the app for your device:
- Android: v2rayNG.
- iPhone and iPad: Streisand or Shadowrocket.
- Windows: v2rayN.
- Mac: V2Box.
2Copy your stealth link
Sign in to your IPTV VPN account, open Subscriptions and open your VPN subscription. The Your VPN card holds your VPN username and password, an OpenVPN file (.ovpn) for each server location and a WireGuard setup for each device number.
The card also has a stealth part, with a Copy link button and a QR code for each location. Press Copy link on the device that runs the stealth app, or show the QR code on another screen.
3Import it in the stealth app
In the stealth app, add a server from the clipboard, or scan the QR code. The exact menu name differs by app version.
4Connect, then open your IPTV app
Connect in the stealth app. Then open your IPTV app and watch as usual. When you are back on a network where WireGuard works, you can switch back to WireGuard.
Stealth mode on a phone, a tablet or a computer
Stealth apps run on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows and Mac. On a TV, the setup depends on the device, so stealth mode is easiest on a phone, a tablet or a laptop. At home, WireGuard is simpler.
If you watch on a phone, connect in the stealth app first and leave it on while you watch. When you leave the network that blocks VPN connections, you can disconnect the stealth app and switch WireGuard on again.
What is stealth mode not
It is not a different plan, and it is not a speed setting. Stealth mode adds an extra layer around the connection, so on a normal network WireGuard is the lighter choice. It also does not change what we record. We keep no activity logs, whichever way you connect.
So, what is stealth mode in one sentence? A VPN connection that looks like ordinary secure web traffic, for networks that block VPN connections.
Good to know
- Stealth mode comes with every plan, next to WireGuard and the OpenVPN profile.
- Each location has its own stealth link. Pick the one closest to you.
- Your plan covers up to 3 devices at the same time, whichever way each device connects.
For travel and hotel stays, read our guide on a VPN on hotel Wi-Fi. The stealth mode page has the short version of the setup, and the WireGuard guide covers the everyday way to connect.
